Meet the team! Keethanan Tharmakulasingam - Junior Developer
The latest addition to our team is a new Junior Software Developer called Keethanan Tharmakulasingam! Take a look at our interview with Keeth...
Hi there Keeth, welcome to the team! Tell us a little bit about yourself…
My name is Keethanan but most people call me Keeth, and I'm the new Junior Software Developer at Appogee HR. I have always had an interest in technology, specifically artificial intelligence. Outside of my tech life, I love to play games with my friends and also play football with them. Being born and raised in France for half of my life, I have quickly adapted to new environments. I want to travel more and see more of the world, meet new people and learn more about their culture.
What appealed to you most about working at Appogee HR?
My first impression of Appogee HR was that it is a small company where each employee has a voice which helps them be innovative as a team. During my introductions with everyone, I was super pleased when I found out that they were strong and smart in how they would divide the work between themselves, to then increase efficiency and also allow the employees to grow their skills. Seeing a very diverse group of people allows me to see that the company gives opportunities to all people of colour, gender or race.
Is there anything you’re really looking forward to getting involved in?
For the time being, I have been introduced to a lot of different software and the knowledge of the application itself. I want to access all this knowledge of this application as if it was second nature. There are lots of new updates and big changes that are about to take place on the application and I’m looking forward to being able to get involved in this change with the whole team.
What’s the most exciting advancement in technology in your opinion?
AI also known as Artificial Intelligence is something that I have a deep passion for. It has been growing at a rapid rate, and I hope that I will be able to see AIs evolve at a higher level than humans. I truly believe that AIs will be the sole reason for finding cures and solving huge world problems and it has always been a dream to one day see a fully consciousness Artificial Intelligence.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a firefighter. I had admired firefighters and their cool uniforms when defeating huge fires. Although being a firefighter could have led me jumping in to open fires and saving people's lives, I eventually decided to go down a “nerdier” path! Programming came naturally to me and I slowly grew interested in AI as technology grew.
How do you take your tea/coffee?
I don't drink coffee although I have never tried it, so I can't say I dislike it. Although I always heard how it has saved many of my friends' last-minute dissertations! I have only really stuck to green tea, specifically lemon flavour.
Favourite book/movie/album and why?
Since I was a kid, I have always loved movies that involved cars or time travel. I was always a big fan of Transformers but then went off it when it started becoming too repetitive. I try to read a book whenever I get the chance. My favourite book of all time has to be Evil Star by Anthony Horowitz. I also love listening to music, and I like to say I do have a wide spectrum of music genres I listen to although my favourite artist has to be Hybrid Minds as they have gotten me out of dark times in my life.
Who or what inspires you?
Elon Musk has recently taken a spot in my heart, his ambition and charisma is something I look up to. His risky investments have led him to him becoming the most iconic and successful millionaire in today's world which is definitely something to aspire to!
